What connection of wires is more reliable: Wago or twist?

There is it due to emergence of transition resistance in the junction of wires, therefore, the contact, the less transition resistance is better, the electric circuit is more reliable. In the house electrical wiring earlier probably in 90% of cases of connection became twists of wires with the subsequent soldering or welding, but often and just like that.
Also bolt connections, terminal clips were sometimes applied. But the science does not stand still, and here to the aid of electricians self-tightening plugs were invented, now them still calls Wago clips.
It became simpler to work, at the rasklyucheniye in the raspredkorobka it is only necessary to insert wires into clips, everything is very simple – inserted and forgot. It is not necessary to remove a lot of isolation from the wire, there are enough 10-12 mm, it is not necessary to twist wires, to isolate. The only minus is the impossibility of connection by clips of Wago of flexible wires.
And than the twist is worse? Really it is so bad and loses in all respects to the vagovsky clip? It became somehow offensive for me for it, especially when you read at forums – "Twist beyond the law!", or "The twist is applied only by laymans, it is the last century!", etc. Here I do not consider myself by the layman and made many connections by means of twists (with welding and without it) and I consider that competently made twist is not worse than modern clips like wago at all.
I decided to carry out tests of these two connections and to find out how they behave at different operating modes – rated, work on the maximum and emergency operation – strong overload of the wire on current.
Took 4 scraps of the copper wire with a section of 2,5 squares, 2 of them connected twist, others 2 – the vagovsky clip bought in shop and intended for this section of wires.
Earlier I already tested the vagovsky clip, trying to measure parameters of transition resistance. I did not manage to measure resistance as did not find the device, the micrometer is required here.
Then I began to argue so: if there is transition resistance, so in this place there will be the heating at course of electric current above admissible.
From heating isolation on the wire will melt and if in twist transition resistance is more, then and temperature will be more - isolation will begin to melt earlier.
Means, it is necessary to include identical loading through these 2 connections, and with current it is more admissible and for identical time at the same indoor temperature it will be possible to draw indirectly conclusions what connection of wires is better – twist or the clip of wago.
For verification of the assumptions I assembled the test stand. Wires connected consistently through clips of modular automatic machines, and as is well-known, at series connection of 2 conductors electric current - identical, so at any moment through the experienced connections current will proceed same.
It was necessary only to connect loading and to take temperature on twist and the clip for comparison. At first decided to make current slightly more than rated – 30 A.
Took temperature the pyrometer and the thermal imager. In 1,5 hours of tests temperature on twist became at most 43,9ºС, at wago clip – 56,9ºС. Small difference. But it is! So far the twist wins.
And I did not even weld twist – just hardly twisted wires and all. Left wires under this current for 3,5 hours, and the following measurements showed that temperature did not change.
The following stage – included loading with current 50 A. In 20 minutes temperature became 82ºС at twist and 96,4ºС at the vagovsky clip. Kept under this current 3 hours, temperature did not change, isolation was not melted off.
Copper wires they maintain the twofold permissible current, however, in one isolation and rasplolozhena on air, that is heat exchange at them is better than at wires under plaster. If to lay the same wires under plaster, then they will be heated much stronger.
And finally decided to include wires on 80 A to see at last what will occur at it is triple the permissible current?
And here I with own eyes saw how the twist maintains current, and wago clip from heating began to melt, isolation of the wire was blown up and became covered by bubbles, and flow began from the vagovsky clip!
At twist it was visible that the wire heats up evenly on all length - from beginning to end.
Literally in 2 minutes of testing I finished, isolation on wires was blown up and turned black, it is possible to draw conclusions. The twist won in all respects! I saw that transition resistance at the wire connected by twist is almost equal 0, and here the vagovsky clip has it much more.
So to ardent opponents of twists there is the worthy answer. In the dispute between twist and the clip of wago it is not necessary to be so categorical and to blindly reject what was applied decades – I about twist, of course.
In favor of the vagovsky clip I want to tell that it can quite be applied where current does not exceed admissible and also there is the access for service of this contact connection.
In practice of my work was when raspredkorobk at repair were completely closed by gypsum cardboard. It is natural that it is impossible to service them at the same time. In this case I rasklyuchatsya in raspredkorobka by twists with the subsequent welding and for 100% was sure that nothing will happen to such connections. I do not use any other connections in such cases.
